finding Home

It’s January Eve and everyone seems to be making resolutions for the New Year. Several years ago I decided to try focusing on a single word instead—something that could unfold as the year progressed. For 2024, I’m exploring the idea of “home.”

I don’t have an overly meaningful reason for this one, other than I just keep coming across it, in so many different contexts. From It’s a Wonderful Life (George’s idea of the best place to lay down his roots changes over the course of this holiday favorite), to visits with my dad in my birth state of Connecticut, to renovations of our Vermont farmhouse, to my connection with the land around me during my recent Mindful Outdoor Leadership training …. What does the word “home” mean, really, and where exactly is it?

One place I can count on finding a soft landing is within my own body during a slow yoga practice. Click the link below to join me in a free 60-minute somatic exploration of our heart’s home, culminating in the version of a standing chest-opening shape that feels just right for you today. (I dropped this video into my free selfcare mini-retreat package, where you can explore a variety of short practices to help you feel more nourished and whole, in just minutes each day—with no strings attached.)

I’ve delved pretty deep since I started this one-word focus. From “space,” (2018), “listen” (2019), “rhythm” (2020), “ritual” (2021), “retreat” (2022) and “svadhyaya” (2023), I finally returned “home.”

What will be your focus for 2024?
